How to Make a Functional Guinea Pig Sized Skateboard

Skateboarding is a cool (although more advanced) trick to teach a guinea pig.

These mini skateboards roll easily just like the real thing and can be used to teach the guinea pig to put their front paws up and push it, or simply used for cute photos with your piggy.

No matter what the purpose, this little skateboard is really adorable and can be painted in any color(s) or design you choose! It’s not too difficult to put together with a few simple tools and craft materials.

Tools Needed For This Project

  • Hot glue gun + hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Scrap paper (to protect work surface)
  • Measuring tape
  • Paint & paintbrush
  • Thin tip marker

Materials Needed For This Project

  • 1 Flat wood piece (approximately 7 inches long x 3 inches wide)
  • 4 Wooden wheels (1.5 inches in diameter)
  • 1 Straw
  • 2 Dowels (1/8″ in diameter)
  • 4 Small pony beads (just big enough to twist snugly onto the dowels)

Step 1

Paint all 4 wheels.

Step 2

Paint the wood piece in the color(s) of your choice.

Step 3

Cut the straw approximately in half.

Step 4

Cut the two straw pieces to about the same width as the wood piece (3″).

Step 5

Measure one inch from each end of the wood piece
and mark it with your thin tip marker.

Step 6

Twist a bead onto one end of each dowel.

Step 7

Glue the two straws onto the wood piece where you marked the one-inch lines.

Step 8

Slide one wheel onto each dowel.

Step 9

Slide the dowels through the straws.

Step 10

Slide the wheels onto the dowels on the other side.

Step 11

Cut off the dowels that are sticking out.

Leave about half an inch to fit the other two beads and allow the wheels to spin freely.

Step 12

Twist the last two beads onto the other ends of the dowels.

Step 13

Do any final paint touch-ups (for example, paint the straws on the underside of the skateboard and the beads on the wheels if desired.)
